Comeauville Marine Institute (CMI)
The Oceanographic Environmental Research Society established the Comeauville Marine Institute (CMI) in 2014 as its’ research facility and field station. It is located in the picturesque Acadian community of Comeauville, Nova Scotia, on the beautiful shores of Saint Mary’s Bay, at the mouth of the Bay of Fundy. This is an ideal location as it allows easy access to both the Bay of Fundy and the Gulf of Maine. It is an area rich in biodiversity and thus offers the opportunity to conduct studies on a wide number of marine species. It is also easily accessed via car, ferry or by air through Halifax airport.
The facility building is fully equipped with work areas, has a well equipped laboratory and necropsy facilities as well as dormitory and living areas for visitors. High speed internet and all the modern conveniences makes research work a pleasure at the CMI ‘field station’. CMI has hosted a number of outreach initiatives that included local citizens as well as faculty and students from post secondary institutions such as University of Toronto, Dalhousie and Saint Anne’s Universities.
