Emergency Grants

Wittnich Marine Animal Rescue Grant (WMAR grant)

Background

The Oceanographic Environmental Research Society (OERS) is committed to saving the marine environment through rescue, rehabilitation and education. This will be accomplished by procuring equipment and training volunteers to help rescue marine animals trapped in environmental disasters, building facilities to rehabilitate these animals for release back into their natural environment and educating the general public to minimize the amount of damage done to the marine environment.
OERS has created a granting system that makes available funds in forms of grants to various groups primarily within Canada and internationally to be used for the charitable activities as outlined in this proposal. Due to federal regulations, an OERS representative must be on hand during these funded activities.

The funds are allocated by a granting committee composed of various individuals who have a vast amount of granting experience.

Conditions/Terms of Agreement

1) OERS maintains the right to refuse funding to any applicant at any time.

2) The grant is to be used to only help various designated charities across Canada and other countries to help defray costs of rescuing and treating marine animals caught in environmental disasters or in medical need.

3) The following funding categories have been established (up to $2,500.00 Can) for the distribution of the OERS Rescue Grant.

    1. $500.00 Can
    2. $1,000.00 Can
    3. $1,500.00 Can
    4. $2,500.00 Can

4) Rescue organizations must be a member of CMARN (Canadian Marine Animal Stranding Network) and  will be able to apply for a grant from OERS only twice (2) a year. Under  certain conditions (such as a large stranding event), one (1) extra grant could be awarded to a rescue organization that has been already allotted its limit for the year.
